And the Oscar goes to ….

Student Oscars are one possibility to achieve the breakthrough as a film maker. Famous directors such as  John Lasseter  („Toy Story“, „Finding Nemo“), Spike Lee („Malcolm X“, „Inside Man“), Robert Zemeckis („Back to the Future“, „Contact“, „Cast Away“) achieved their first successes at the Studen Oscar competition.

Also German newcomers have been  among the winners. Lennart Ruff (28) won 2014 with his movie „Nocebo“ the gold medal. A few years before,  2007,  Constantin Hebbeln, as well at the age of 28 won this price with his creepy fairy tale „NimmerMeer“.

Many big names started early …..

At the age of 17 Steven Spielberg (ET, Indianer Jones, …) shot his first movie Firelight with an amateur 8mm camera:

 … unlimited possibilities

With the technological progress in computer and video technologiy today Low-Budget and No-Budget movies can be produced with technologies, which a few years back were reserved for the big hollywood studios only.  One example is „Blender“, a free (Open Source) 3D software for the creation of animation movies.  Every two years the Blender community produces a short movie to demonstrate the latest functionalities. „Tears of Steel“ is a recent movie, where a group of people tries to prevent a robot from destroying the world.

For motivation a few last words from the famous  film maker and director James Cameron:

Pick up a camera. Shoot something. No matter how small, no matter how cheesy, no matter whether your friends and your sister star in it. Put your name on it as director. Now you’re a director. Everything after that you’re just negotiating your budget and your fee.
